1. BILLY WEBER - FILM EDITOR

Film department mentor and Academy Award-nominated editor Billy Weber has collaborated with some of the biggest names in Hollywood, including Terrence Malick, Tony Scott and Martin Brest. Billy talks about his enduring desire to engage the next generation of filmmakers and how his love of storytelling continues to stoke his passion for each new project.

It's a riddle that Illustration faculty member solves every week in his playful drawings featured within each installation of the New York Times' popular Modern Love column and podcast. Join us in his studio, where he talks with us about the emotional openness and artistic courage that informs his life and work, from a childhood love of drawing to a prized gig as Art Director of the New York Times Op-Ed section to the fulfillment he’s found teaching and working in California.

3. TYRONE JAMES DRAKE - GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Surrounded by the music, politics and culture of his hometown, Oakland, California, graphic designer Tyrone James Drake developed a style of design infused with the urgency and energy of the musical and political movements from his youth. As a teacher, Tyrone hopes to expose his students to new ideas and guide them on the journey of discovering and inventing their own voice.

4. SHERRY HOFFMAN - BRAND STRATEGIST

Whether Designmatters faculty member Sherry Hoffman is working on Vice's cutting edge offices or conceptualizing a cozy day care facility as brand strategist for March Studio, her Santa Monica-based branded architecture firm celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, she's always looking for a way to amplify the social impact of a brand or product. Sherry opened up to us about her design visioning process, the role of faith in her work and how she brings her lifelong commitment to learning from others into the classroom and beyond.

5. OLGA KOUMOUNDOUROS - SCULPTOR

Artist Olga Koumoundouros has built her aesthetic practice in the spaces in-between sculpture, installation and performance, creating a body of work that seeks to expose the contradictions in American identity and economic reality. Similar to her artworks, her teaching is guided by her interest in being socially engaged, and recently lead to a collaboration with the Exceptional Children's Foundation, an organization that works with developmentally disabled adults.
